Atlantic Stockyard Limited held their first feeder sale of the fall on Saturday September 13, 2014. The sale featured 171 unvaccinated cattle averaging 647 lbs which sold for $1.74 per pound as well as 544 vaccinated cattle averaging 675 lbs which sold for $2.25 per pound.
Top single was a Charolais steer weighing 505 lbs, selling for $2.97. The steer was sold by George Baxter and purchased by Balamore Farm Ltd.
The top group were 7 red steers averaging 559 lbs, selling for $2.94. This group was sold by Darren Allison and purchased by Keith Kinsmen.

The Maritime Beef Testing Society is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 winter test. We are entering the third season using the GrowSafe feeding system to evaluate bull performance. We are very pleased to be working with Dr. Yuri Montanholi this year. He and his team of researchers and students from Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture will be assisting with the test and using data in his research program. We also invite all MBTS members and beef producers to attend the Annual General Meeting on Saturday November 22, 2014 at the Nappan Pavilion. The meeting will start at 10:30 am and will include a review of Dr. Montanholi’s current heifer project.
The Maritime Simmental Association is hosting a field day at the “Glarro Farm” on Fawcett Hill, NB, on Sunday September 14 from 1:00pm to 4.00 pm.
We would like to invite all Simmental breeders or anyone who is associated with the beef industry. Come and see the Simmental herd, look at a few ideas in the barn and come for a wagon ride through the woods.
A lunch will be provided.

Atlantic Stockyards have announced dates for the 2014 Fall Feeder Sales. Sales will start at 10:00am on the following dates:
Saturday September 13
Saturday October 18
Saturday November 15
Saturday December 6
Vaccinated cattle will be uniquely identified, all cattle will be sold by order of arrival. Vaccinated cattle must be accompanied by a vaccination declaration.
Producers are encouraged to pre register all feeder cattle as early as possible – ASL will be list pre registered cattle on their website.
