Oldest Producing Beef Cow in Atlantic Canada Contest

Atlantic Beef & Sheep

Thanks to a suggestion from Limousin breeder Barb McLaughlin (of McKay Siding, Nova Scotia), Atlantic Beef & Sheep magazine is celebrating its 25th year of publication with a contest to discover the Oldest Producing Beef Cow in Atlantic Canada. As McLaughlin said when she pitched the idea: “It would be really neat to know some of those old girls that are out there, and just every year, crank out a calf and do their job. They’re the stars.”

Atlantic Beef & Sheep invites you to start taking photos of your oldest producing beef cow – ideally with her last calf by her side. To enter the contest, you will need to send some kind of record that would help prove the age of your cow, such as an old, dated photo; a newspaper clipping; a show report; or anything else that would help verify her age. Your entry should also include: 1) your name, address, and the name of your farm (if it has a name), 2) the age of your cow and her last calf, 3) a brief description of your farm and livestock, and 4) any interesting facts or stories about this cow. An approporiate prize and recognition for the winning entries will be announced in the summer issue of the magazine.

Please email your photos and entry to Rachel Brighton, magazine editor, at rachelbrighton@ns.sympatico.ca or mail your entry to: Rachel Brighton / Editor, Atlantic Beef & Sheep / DvL Publishing / P.O. Box 1509, Liverpool / NS, B0T 1K0. Questions are most welcome and we look forward to your submissions.

Thank you, from the team at Atlantic Beef & Sheep.
